The Volunteer Fire Company (VFC) Community Is The Great American Unsung Hero Story.
Two-thirds of the firefighters in the U.S. are Volunteers and in suburban and rural America, most firefighters are Volunteers. These are our modern day minutemen and women who answer the 911 calls for fire, rescue and medical emergencies. The VFC community is in crisis as it struggles to find and retain new members, pay for equipment and buildings, train staff and fundraise. When reality is at its worst, this is community at its best!
